Legacy PFAS contamination is becoming a critical consideration not just for sites undergoing decommissioning or redevelopment, but also for operational chemical plants. While the UK has traditionally lagged behind regions such as the US, Europe and Australia in regulating PFAS, the Environment Agency is now taking decisive steps—tightening controls and updating permits on live production sites to reflect growing awareness of the risks.
Keith Davidson, Partner at Irwin Mitchell, will open the session with a legal overview of current PFAS obligations and emerging liabilities. He will be followed by Matt Logan from Ramboll, who will examine how the Environment Agency is implementing regulation on the ground—particularly through mechanisms like Regulation 61 notices—and the implications for site permitting. Finally, Dr Sam Hall will provide practical insights into the latest techniques for identifying and managing PFAS contamination, offering pragmatic, real-world solutions for both active and legacy sites.
This session will offer clear, joined-up guidance for those navigating PFAS challenges across operational, decommissioning and redevelopment contexts—linking legal, regulatory and technical perspectives to support informed, proactive decision-making.
Free of charge for all to attend.
