From 2015, Thomas Swan have had access to a low carbon electricity source from an Anaerobic Digestion Plant. Owned and operated by Allium this facility has the capability to supply 100% of Thomas Swan’s manufacturing requirements.
The biomass for the plant is sourced and grown within 10 miles of Consett. The waste mass and liquors from the anaerobic digestion process is given back to the farmers to use as fertilizer on their land.
This electricity source is important to Thomas Swan who have targeted achieving net zero carbon status by 2030. The AD plant is supplying up to 70% of Thomas Swan’s requirements currently.
