This guidance has been developed by the Chlorine Sector Network of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA). It is intended to identify best practice on the preparation of chlorine tanks for inspection and return to service (at the time of publication) and is based on many years of practical experience from within the CIA Chlorine Sector Network. The range of scale and nature of the use of bulk chlorine is diverse so some interpretation may be necessary as to the applicability of some of the recommendations.
This document expands on the guidance within paragraphs 199 – 207 of HSG 28, Inspection and Commissioning of Chlorine tanks Installations
The guidance is a recommendation and not a mandatory standard to which all users of bulk chlorine must adhere. It should not be used as a substitute for any applicable specific legislative requirement. Whilst all reasonable efforts have been made to ensure the accuracy of the contents and correspondence to legislative requirements at the time of publication, readers must refer to these themselves to ensure their compliance with current legal duties.[1]
