GVA

This region is responsible for 2.5% of all gross value added by the national chemical industry.

Within London the chemical industry is responsible for 0.2% of gross value added from all industries but 8.7% of all manufacturing industries.

Exports

This region’s export make up 12.2% of all chemical exports

Chemicals are 18.5% of all exports from the region and are exported in similar quantities to EU and non-EU countries (54-46).

Over 63% of all chemical exported from London are classified as medicinal or pharmaceutical preparations.

Exports from London are inflated because many companies have headquarters in London (especially multinationals). For this reason whilst exports are really high the value added to national economy is relatively low as not many chemicals are actually produced within London, despite there being some laboratories in Greater London.

Our industry makes up for 2.6% of all manufacturing employment in the region.

The biggest manufacturing employers are food products manufacturing, fabricated metal products, and manufacture of furniture.
