More developments following Natural Resources Wales Consultation on our Proposed Installations Banding Tool

In Wales a new banding tool replaced OPRA on January 22nd 2024 following Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Consultation on our Proposed Installations Banding Tool . OPRA will be withdrawn for permit applications but will remain in place for calculating subsistence charges for 2024/25. Reviewing subsistence charges will form part of our NRW’s long term programme of work. A further NRW consultation closed on Jan 8th NRW regulatory-fees-and-charges-for-24-25. Installation subsistence fees are proposed to increase by 5% from April 2024 (mainly inflation related). COMAH fees to increase from £161/hr to £202/hr.

From 6th April 2024, it will become law for all businesses, charities, and public sector organisations in Wales to sort their waste for recycling. The following link explains the changes. Workplace recycling in Wales.

NRW has a hiring freeze until June with a flat budget (effectively 20% down from pre-covid times). EPR inspectors should be unaffected as their fees are paid for via business inspection and subsistence fees.
