On 30 December 2024, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) published its long anticipated Residual Waste Infrastructure Capacity Note for England.[1]With DEFRA stating that the note “is intended to support decision makers in planning for residual waste treatment to support the transition to a circular economy”, this article considers some of the note’s implications for those interested in planning for and delivering the waste infrastructure of the future.
