We continue to work with the Department for Business and Trade to ensure that a robust framework of trade remedies are available to protect UK manufacturers against unfair trade. CIA encouraged the Department to introduce a yearly “window” for Duty Suspension applications which offer significant assistance to the chemical industry in keeping raw material costs competitive. In addition to advising Government on Free Trade Agreement priorities we also sit on various working groups including Technical Barriers to Trade and Rules of Origin.

 CIA coordinates UK SME participation at major international chemical fairs such as CPhI Worldwide, Chemspec Europe and Speciality Chemicals America working alongside DBT to encourage participation at In-Cosmetics Global.

The UK chemical industry and our international trade

Brexit presents ongoing issues that must be addressed by all businesses. The UK is responsible for establishing an independent UK trade policy for the first time in over 40 years. Leaving the European Union (EU), the Single Market and the Customs Union has required the UK to set its own tariff regime and to establish a mechanism to protect UK industry from unfair competition.
